Healthy People, Healthy Communities
Capital Health is located in the largest integrated academic health district, and the largest urban centre, in the Maritimes. Known as the Capital Health District, it consists of the Halifax Regional Municipality and the western portion of Hants County in Nova Scotia. We proudly boast a number of world-class research centres and teaching hospitals in the midst of a thriving, yet welcoming, metropolis.
Capital Health provides core health services to 395,000 residents, or 40 per cent of the population of Nova Scotia and tertiary and quaternary acute care services to residents of Atlantic Canada. Specialized adult health services are provided to a referral population from the rest of the province of 550,000, and to residents of New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. Nearly 10,000 staff members are employed within Capital Health.
The Capital Health District also encompasses seven volunteer Community Health Boards that advise Capital Health through the development of community health plans and encourage public participation in health planning.
The people of Capital Health work with individuals and communities to improve health. We provide care, educate, conduct research, and advocate.
